Hoşça kalın and Güle güle can both belong to a goodbye, but they are said by different people. Choose the situations that matter to you

Before a trip, start with transport, accommodation and food. Before a new job, try the first-day and task sections. Many requests use polite or plural forms; the notes identify familiar wording where it matters. Read the entire sentence before replacing a word, because Turkish endings may change with it. First contact

Merhaba does not require a particular time of day. At the end of a conversation, the person leaving says Hoşça kalın, and the person staying can reply Güle güle. Practise that exchange in both roles. Adınız ne? uses the polite or plural form when asking someone's name.

Nerelisiniz?	Where are you from?	Nerelisiniz asks about a person's origin, not where they are travelling from today.

Buraya yeni taşındım.	I've just moved here.	Taşınmak here means moving home. It is not simply arriving for a visit.
İş için buradayım.	I'm here for work.	İş için gives the reason for being there; it does not specify the length of the stay.
Öğrenciyim.	I'm a student.	Öğrenciyim has no grammatical gender; no separate male or female form is needed.

Rica ederim.	You're welcome.	Rica ederim is a reply to thanks. It is not the greeting used to welcome someone arriving.
Özür dilerim.	I'm sorry.	Özür dilerim is an apology. Kusura bakmayın is another common way to apologise.
Geç kaldığım için özür dilerim.	Sorry I'm late.
Sorun değil.	That's all right.	Here Sorun değil reassures someone after an apology.
Uzun zaman oldu.	It's been a long time.

Biraz daha yavaş konuşur musunuz? asks someone to speak a little more slowly. It concerns pace, not volume. Anladım acknowledges understanding; it is worth keeping separate from the questions you need when something is still unclear. Bunu alacağım tells the seller you have chosen to buy an item. Daha büyük bedeni var mı? asks for a larger clothing size; shoes use numara instead of beden. Select the expression for what you are buying, then practise the questions about payment and receipts that follow the choice.

Bunu iade edebilir miyim?	Can I return this?	İade asks about returning a purchase. Whether a refund is available depends on the situation.

Dün aldım.	I bought it yesterday.
Bozuk.	It's broken.	Bozuk usually means faulty or not working here. For something physically snapped, kırık may be more precise.
Bir parçası eksik.	A part is missing.
Bu stokta var mı?	Do you have this in stock?	Stokta asks if the item is available in the shop's inventory.
Tekrar ne zaman gelecek?	When will it be back in stock?
Hediye paketi yapar mısınız?	Could you wrap it as a gift?

Phone and forms

Telefonum çekmiyor describes a phone with no reception. Şarjım bitmek üzere says the battery is about to run out. They name different problems, even when both leave you unable to use the phone. Keep your own address and account details ready when practising the form and contact questions.

Başım dönüyor means you feel dizzy; Başım ağrıyor describes a headache. Midem bulanıyor expresses nausea. Ne iş yapıyorsunuz? asks about someone's occupation. Kulağa ilginç geliyor responds to something they have described. A small conversation needs both asking and listening, so choose a follow-up that fits the answer rather than moving automatically to the next question in the table.

Making plans

Yarın müsait misiniz? asks whether someone is available tomorrow. Cumartesi size uyar mı? checks whether Saturday suits them. The words concern a person's schedule, not the price of an activity. Once you agree on a day, use the time and place expressions to make the plan specific.

Tasks

Ben hallederim says you will handle the task or problem. Before using it, make sure the task is clear to both people. Practise the instructions with a real example from your work and add the relevant person, file or deadline. The more concrete the reference, the less the sentence has to leave implied.

Work problems

Keep the phrases for reporting a problem separate from promises about fixing it, so the person listening can tell what has happened and what you are proposing next.

Return to the expressions you need

Choose a small set before an appointment, trip or workday. Try saying each expression without looking, then check the Turkish and its note. Change example details carefully rather than assuming the endings will always stay the same. As you use the sentences, add words from the answers you hear. A useful request is only one side of an exchange.

Common questions

Are these Turkish phrases formal or informal?

Many requests use polite or plural forms appropriate for speaking to someone you do not know well. Notes explain familiar alternatives and relevant context. Choose the form that fits the person and situation.

Can I replace words in the example sentences?

Names and details are examples, but Turkish endings can change when you replace a word. Learn the full expression first and check the form you need rather than swapping words mechanically.
